I wanted to share the reason for the inspiration for this article. It came from a chance encounter on a train, a conversation that revealed the transformative power of self-care.
I met a friend who started a very challenging new job, dedicated to helping people facing drug addiction, abusive relationships, and homelessness. I listened as she spoke so passionately about the job and the people she works with. I couldn’t help but think that I could never do that job, I would find it too emotionally draining. So I asked her how she coped with the emotional toll of such a demanding role.
